At the risk of sounding morbid in some already bleak times, I am very interested in death and the concept of afterlife. I have always been drawn to somewhat macabre art (some of my favorite examples are by Edward Gorey, Tim Burton and Jef Wind). In my final portfolio, I explore various concepts and interpretations of death and the afterlife from mythology, literature, and pop culture.

Death is often tragic, dark, and scary, but it can also be hopeful, bittersweet, and beautiful. In depicting these themes, I try to show the vast emotional complexity surrounding death by coupling beautiful imagery with morbid symbolism. Some of my artistic influences in creating this body of work include Frida Kahlo, Polly Nor, Rosie Hardy, and Gustav Klimt. I take inspiration from these artists' uses of color and composition to portray death in different ways. I hope you enjoy my creative interpretations of death and what lies beyond!
